Audio dropouts over HDMI can have a few different causes. Assuming that the HDMI cable that is being used is not faulty, audio dropouts may be due to the inability of a receiver or processor to properly decode a particular codec, or even a specific version or revision of a particular codec, such as Dolby TrueHD. A common release that this issue can be replicated with is the newest Total Recall Blu-ray disc.

Luckily, such issues are easily resolved by changing the HDMI Audio setting in the Setup Menu

  1. Go to the Setup Menu and select Audio Format Setup.
  2. Select HDMI Audio.
  3. Set HDMI Audio to LPCM.
  4. Test for audio dropouts; the issue will more than likely be resolved.
