Audio dropouts over HDMI can have a few different causes. Assuming that the HDMI cable that is being used is not faulty, audio dropouts may be due to the inability of a receiver or processor to properly decode a particular codec, or even a specific version or revision of a particular codec, such as Dolby TrueHD. A common release that this issue can be replicated with is the newest Total Recall Blu-ray disc.
Luckily, such issues are easily resolved by changing the HDMI Audio setting in the Setup Menu.
- Go to the Setup Menu and select Audio Format Setup.
- Select HDMI Audio.
- Set HDMI Audio to LPCM.
- Test for audio dropouts; the issue will more than likely be resolved.
